What does function mean?
Function is the way in which individuals act and respond in different environments in everyday life, and how they meet requirements and expectations. Function always arises in interplay between the unique personal prerequisites of an individual and the situation and context they are living in.
The ICF CoreSets tool aims to identify individual strengths and weaknesses, as well as facilitating and hindering environmental factors. Results provide a holistic understanding of an individual’s functioning, and a solid basis for understanding diversity and adequate support measures.
What is the ICF?
The ICF CoreSets tool is based on the World Health Organization's (WHO) classification system International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). ICF is a globally accepted system for assessment of the following areas of function: Body functions, body structures, activities and participation, environmental factors and personal factors. It is considered standard practice and is recommended by national and international organizations and guidelines.
What are ICF Core Sets?
ICF Core Sets are short versions of the ICF, targeting a specific diagnosis. ICF Core Sets for ADHD and ASD were developed through extensive research at the Center of Neurodevelopmental Disorders at Karolinska Institutet (KIND) in collaboration with WHO and the ICF Research Branch Institute in Switzerland, as well as international experts and stakeholders. The ICF CoreSets tool is a rating system derived from the ICF Core Sets for ADHD and ASD.
